Location
Apart from the well-trodden paths to the New City Hall and its Glockenspiel, Aldstadt features some special not-so-obvious places, such as the Literaturhaus (Munich is the largest publishing city in Europe) and the Kunstverein with contemporary art. In addition to being the cultural nucleus of Munich, the district also attracts shoppers, diners, and – bizarrely – surfers, as the Isar River sports a couple of waves, which tend to draw a crowd. In a nutshell, the Altstadt is a compact area of beautiful buildings, pebbled streets, old pubs with world-renowned beers on tap, and a plethora of restaurants.
