Renowned Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta is famous for his use of bright colors, natural light, and thick walls.

He took on the La Purificadora as a challenge. Limiting himself entirely to the colors black and white, he used materials like stone from the original construction, old wood, onyx, and specially fabricated floor tiles in creating the hotel’s public spaces, which includes a stunning stairway and a roof terrace with an artist-rendered 30-meter pool.

Rich woods, exposed walls, and patterned tiles lend character to the interiors.

Elements found by an onsite archaeologist, such as bottles and glass fragments, are incorporated into the hotel’s construction and graphic design, which is a striking yet functional mix of the past and present, of the raw and the refined.
