Gorgeous George Design Details in Cape Town

Architecture Urbane Citizen Architecture

The hotel’s architects artfully repurposed two historical structures with a provocative industrial thread.

Urbane Citizen Architecture showcases the classical aesthetic of the two heritage structures through grand architraves, cornices, and oak floors, all of which are juxtaposed by sculptural concrete and steel beams. Incorporating some of the original flow of the two buildings, the architects were able to create spacious suites that organically utilize the structures’ existing windows.

Interior design Tristan du Plessis

Celebrating South African art and design, Tristan du Plessis has created a world that feels uniquely local.

Designer Tristan du Plessis has created a showcase for African aesthetics, which he then supports through a neutral-to-dark palette, as well as blues and whites that soften the industrial elements. Local designers are present throughout, with pieces by David Krynauw, Gregor Jenkin, Egg designs, and more, while works by internationally renowned South African artists, such as David Brits and Porky Hefer, abound.

Food & Drink Succulent and sustainable

Gigi Rooftop focuses on sustainable, ethically sourced produce that comes from its own farm.

When he’s not tending to his organic garden, foraging for everything from mushrooms to mussels, or sourcing local produce, Chef Kyle du Plooy is crafting seasonal cuisine that is served upon a green rooftop oasis that allows one to be surrounded by the city below. And he does it in partnership with the charitable Ladles of Love’s “Feed the Soil” program, which produces compost from food waste that is donated to farmers to help them grow organic produce.

Art & Culture Street cred

Each room is finished with a touch of inner-city howzit thanks to a hand-painted wall art by David Brits.

Brits is an interdisciplinary, multimedium artist based in Cape Town whose work spans printmaking, drawing, and video. The artist is well-known for the large public sculptures dotting his native city.
